Arkansas Rains Marching In

This week, the rains return to the South. We’ve got a series of showers that will swing through the area this week. There are two pieces of good news out of this. First, it’s not looking like these showers are bringing a lot of Big Bad Storms with them. It should mostly be just rain. Second, the areas getting the most rain are not the same areas that had the biggest flooding problems in February.

The map above is the 5 day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast from the Weather Prediction Center. It’s showing a bullseye of rainfall from about Tulsa through Memphis. Parts of Arkansas are looking at 4 to 5 inches of rain between now and Friday.

Because all of that rain will eventually flow through the river systems towards the Gulf, the heavy rain in Arkansas means our river levels aren’t expected to drop much anytime soon.
