A Few Severe Storms Possible Wednesday

A very large and strong ridge of high pressure remains in control of most of the weather pattern across the US, but small disturbances in the northern parts of the country are providing enough energy to generate a few strong to severe storms that are capable of a few tornadoes, damaging hail and damaging winds.

The two areas of concern are portions of North Dakota and Minnesota where the biggest threat today will be hail as a system clips the US/Canada border. The other comes from ongoing thunderstorms over the Great Lakes that will shift southeastward this afternoon. The main threats here will be both damaging winds in excess of 60mph and damaging hail of 1’ in diameter or larger. The tornado threat is low but can’t be ruled out.

Some additional storms may develop across Pennsylvania overnight which will feature another round of mainly hail and wind potential.
