A Look At September For Louisiana

September is here! What does that mean for us fall lovers? Not much for now, but let’s take a look at the seasonal norms to get a better understanding of what we can expect this month.

Today marks the first day of meteorological fall, but climatology tells us it won’t feel much like it. Seasonal averages for today are all 90 degrees or above and we’re certainly experiencing that above average feel for now. By the end of the month, we should lose about 10 degrees on both high and low temperatures. That brings most of the state down to the mid 80s for average highs and mostly 60s for average lows. The month does typically feature quite a bit of rainfall. The northern side of the state tends to average about 3.5” while further south we see a little above 5” of rain. So what does this September look like?

September Outlook

Simply put: more of the same. As you’ll see below, the first half of the month is forecast to be above average for temperatures and below average on rainfall. The monthly outlook shows the same thing. So that means temperatures above the lower 90s for now and above the mid 80s later in the month.

Let’s hope we can catch a cool front here and there, but overall, it looks like we’re in for more hot and dry weather for the month. We’re not alone though. Most of the country is expected to be above their average highs for the next two weeks or more.
