Beryl becomes historic hurricane

Hurricane Beryl has made history by becoming the first Category 4 hurricane to form in the month of June.

Beryl achieved hurricane status on Saturday and today has rapidly intensified into a dangerous category 4 with winds of 130mph as of the 11am advisory on Sunday.

Beryl is expected to continue strengthening and a rapid pace as the storm tracks towards the Windward Islands. The storm will bring life-threatening conditions to the Lesser Antilles starting tonight and into Monday.

Beryl is forecast to continue to on a west-northwest path this week with some gradual weakening. We’ll be watching the forecast closely as the storm approaches the western Caribbean and the Yucatán.
