Ida Still on Course

There’s not much change in the forecast for Ida. She’s expected to rapidly strengthen over the next 12 hours and could become a Cat 3 storm before the day is over. That means Ida could make landfall in South Louisiana as a Cat 4 late tomorrow.

The National Hurricane Center has done an excellent job with the storm. The forecasts have been right on since the very start. So, we’re still not expected much change in the path of this system. Landfall comes in the evening on Sunday generally south of Baton Rogue. It will then travel up the Mississippi before turning northeast towards Tennessee.

In addition to the destructive winds and storm surge along the Louisiana coast, we’re also expecting massive flooding problems from New Orleans up to Natchez, Mississippi. Basically, everywhere in the “Toe of the Boot” in Louisiana will get between half an inch to more than 15” of rainfall in a very short amount of time. Folks living in those areas should not try driving around during the storm, as the roadways will be extremely dangerous.
