Tropics waking up and bringing more rain this weekend

You’ve probably seen there are a couple or tropical disturbances being monitored by the NHC right now. One far out in the Atlantic Ocean and one closer to home.

The Atlantic Disturbance

This disturbance has a rather high chance of becoming our first named storm of the season. It would likely be a sub-tropical storm if named. If Ana does form, she would pose no threat to the US.

The Gulf Disturbance

The disturbance in the northwest corner of the Gulf of Mexico has a lower chance of development, according to NHC. They put the chance at 40%. This feature has become a bit better organized from yesterday, but still has a lot to overcome to develop. Perhaps a tropical depression could form before this runs into SE Texas this weekend.

What this system will do, regardless of development, is produce more rain over areas that have already seen so much this week. You can expect an additional 2-4” inches of rain to fall across SW Louisiana today through Saturday. Rain chances will also increase along the Texas Coast for Saturday and Sunday with 1-2” possible.
