An update on Invest 92L

The southwest Gulf of Mexico is coming to life and you’re probably seeing a ton of hype about this system. Let’s catch you up!

Invest 92L has been showing on models for quite a while now, and it’s taken a solid week or so for any models to really show a reasonable cause for meteorologists to start talking about it. Which is why you’re hearing about it lately.

RIGHT NOW

Invest 92L is hanging out in the Bay of Campeche. It’s rather disorganized, taking some wind shear from the west and north, and overall not really doing much other than causing some rain showers and thunderstorms down there.

WHAT’S NEXT

Models show some gradual but slow development of 92L this week as the system meanders to the north towards the Gulf Coast.

Here’s a look at the GFS Ensembles showing that slow movement to the north.

Here’s a look at the latest intensity forecasts.

We’re thinking a landfall between Houston and New Orleans looks pretty likely by late this upcoming weekend or early next week. The system could certainly strengthen to tropical storm status by then.

We have seen some of the hype going around already and want to get ahead of this. Don’t fall for the hype and fear. Follow Storm Guides or a real source for weather information and we’ll keep you ahead of any storm that may come your way!
