TD8 Update

We just wanted to give you a quick update today on Tropical Depression 8. It’s currently out in the Gulf of Mexico and heading towards the Texas Coast.

It looks like TD8 will make landfall south of Corpus Christi late Friday, and there could be some strengthening before then. The system could even become a Tropical storm before hitting the coast, but that’s about it.

The picture above is the Simulated Reflectivity output from the North American Model for Friday evening. You see the blob of rain near the South Texas Coast. That’s the center of TD8, but you’ll also notice there’s not a lot of organization with it.

The other feature we’re seeing is the rain heading up through Louisiana. TD8 has been helping to send tropical moisture into Louisiana, and that will continue into early Saturday. Those rains are just typical summertime afternoon storms, and don’t really pose much of a severe weather risk.
