Rainy 30 Days
It’s been a very wet and rainy 30 days across the Southeast. This image above is from water.weather.gov (an excellent resource we will be adding to our Weather Tools page for you!), showing how much rain has fallen over the past 30 days. You can see the red areas from East Texas through North Louisiana, Arkansas, and all the way over to North Carolina. Those locations have received between 5” and 10” of rainfall in just over four weeks.
But, the purple areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee have gotten between 10” and 15” of rain in that same amount of time. So, you can see why there’s been such a problem with river flooding in those areas, especially Jackson, Mississippi along the Pearl River.
We are still looking for more rain - perhaps as much as 2” to fall this week in some of those same areas. While it doesn’t look like Big Bad Storms will be much of a threat, at this point, any rain in those locations is too much.
Unfortunately, there’s not much relieve from the rain coming in the next few weeks. By looking at the longer range models, we are still expecting a series of rainmakers to swing across the South at least through mid-March.
