Big Bad Storms possible this evening

Hi-res models continue to show some strong to severe storms developing for Arkansas, Missouri to Kentucky and into Tennessee tonight.

The latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center, pictures above, shows an area of a Slight Risk for severe storms in yellow. That’s a 2 out of 5 on the scale. Kind of uncommon for this area, hail appears to be the main threat from these storms. A damaging wind and tornado threat is also in the mix.

Storms are forecast to fire up within the next few hours across Arkansas and Missouri. They will then spread eastward into Kentucky, southern Illinois, and western Tennessee this evening and overnight. The severe threat may carry us into early Tuesday morning. The picture above from the HRRR model shows what radar could look like around 9:00pm CT.

Should the weather warrant, we will launch the Live Big Bad Weather Blog so you can ask questions and get answers in real time!
